When Amir Bagher stepped off the plane in Vancouver, he wasn't just moving to a new country—he was continuing a journey of transformation that began years earlier in his native Iran.
With a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and a master’s in Business Administration tucked under his arm, Amir spent nearly two decades mastering the art of project scheduling and PMO management for large-scale projects like the Tehran Residential Towers and Milad Telecommunication Tower. Parallel to this technical career, he led a commercial company for 15 years as the head of the board.
But 2019 was the beginning of Amir’s journey into coaching. “I received a suggestion from a trusted friend,” he says, smiling at the memory. “He told me about a leadership course and suggested I sign up. I was already thinking about ways to improve my leadership at work, so I didn’t think twice and I just registered.”
He pauses, then adds with a laugh, “But it turned out to be something entirely different. I thought I was signing up to become a better manager. Instead, I discovered an entirely new way of being.”
The course—based on ontological and phenomenological principles—introduced him to concepts that would transform his approach to both life and work: integrity, authenticity, and what he describes as " being cause in the matter, and being given one’s way of being and action by something greater than oneself, all as the foundational ways of moving through life as a leader."
“I thought I was signing up to become a better manager. Instead, I discovered an entirely new way of being.”
"In leadership, we don't just predict the future," Amir explains, leaning forward with quiet intensity. "We create a future that is bigger and more powerful than ourselves. But first, we must complete our uncompleted pasts. A truly created future doesn't emerge from the past, it’s completely independent of it."
This philosophy inspired Amir to approach his businesses with deeper purpose. When launching a food-based venture, he looked beyond mere sustenance. Together with his team, he designed themed food boxes, each telling a unique story such as a birthday celebration, a gathering of friends, or the comforting nostalgia of a home-cooked maternal meal. More than just a business, the project employed women without financial support, creating economic opportunities through meaningful social responsibilities.
Even in construction, Amir's approach transcended traditional renovation.
"I would sit with clients and explore what they truly wanted to experience in each room," he shares. "Did they want to feel joy in their bedroom? Connection in their kitchen? We weren't just building walls. In fact, we were crafting spaces that evoke powerful experiences. It became a form of environmental therapy."
Through his journey of professional evolution and geographic relocation, Amir has distilled his life philosophy to a simple but profound insight:
"Life doesn't work in the sequence of having–doing–being. It works through our Being. By intentionally choosing our way of being alongside our actions, we transform everything."
Today, Amir has committed to two core possibilities: joy and impact.
This commitment has helped him stay grounded and free, even in the face of challenges—whether personal setbacks or the difficulties of starting over in a new country.
“By intentionally choosing our way of being alongside our actions, we transform everything.”
“When I act from a place of joy and contribution, even in the hardest times, my life still feels alive and meaningful. I have even found joy right in the middle of adversity,” Amir says.
Now he is working as a coach and mentor to people who want to create meaningful futures that are bigger than themselves, both in life and in business. He is also pursuing ICF certification as a professional coach. Amir is building a practice that blends leadership principles with his deep industry knowledge.
His vision? To help engineers and construction professionals discover more meaningful, purpose-driven careers—building not just structures, but lives of intention and fulfillment.
